Alpaca wool shawls are a great accessory to wear against the skin as the alpaca fibers are not prickly. Alpaca wool remains lightweight, even when wet, giving it a distinct advantage over sheep’s wool, which can become heavy when wet. This is because the alpaca fibers are naturally hollow and water-repellent. The hollow fibers also allow for excellent insulation against both warm and cold temperatures, better than most traditional wools, so it can be worn comfortably in a wide range of temperatures and weather.

Alpaca fibers are naturally antimicrobial and odor-resistant so you should not need to clean the garment often. Alpaca wool fibers contain a minimal amount of lanolin, which is removed during the production process.

If you decide to wash this garment, use a gentle detergent or shampoo and cool water. Wash by hand, only, and make sure not to wring or rub in a way that causes heavy friction to the garment. Do not use chlorine bleach. Due to the alpaca fibers the shawls tend to shed a little, but this is easy to brush off, which should be done with a soft bristled brush in the direction of the fibers.
